Ynes Mexia Biographical Poster
The prompt was to choose a female scientist and create a poster to showcase who they are. I chose Ynes Mexia, a prominent Mexican-American botanist who is well known for her groundbreaking work in South America and paving the way for future female botanists.
With this poster I played with the idea of the specimen sheets that she created to catalog the plants she collected. All of those sheets generally featured the plant displayed in the center of the page with blocks of text and labels around the specimen. I used these principles in my poster to evoke the feelings of those sheets, but used gradient maps to change the colors and modernize the concept.
