Branding Teatro del Maggio
Spring 2024
While abroad in Florence, I took a class focused on branding and identity. For the entire semester, our main project was to study one of the theaters in Florence and create a new and fresh visual identity for it. I was assigned Teatro del Maggio Fiorentino Musicale, which hosts a variety of operas, concerts, and shows. It is also home to a festival called Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, for which it is most famous and from where it gets its name.
During the project I was able to visit the theater in person and take pictures. I was inspired by the very modern architecture mixed with the more than 100 year history of the festival. Because of that, I decided to create a watermark that references that history with the Florentine lily, a staple of all of their past logos, but modernize it by abstracting and simplifying the shapes to mirror the architectural elements of the building. In addition to the standard logo, I created three alternate logos to represent each type of show put on by the theater.
