About me!
New Works Collective Artwork
During my internship at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis (OTSL), I illustrated the artwork to promote a series of short original operas that are part of OTSL’s New Works Collective. Every year, the theatre commissions three contemporary artists to create new operas. This year’s selected pieces are the following:
1. Family Style: A young, first generation Asian American woman strives to go to college and make her parents proud.
2. Black Coffee: A young woman moves to a new city where she navigates through the struggles of living in a new environment.
3. Kandake: An Egyptian kandake (queen) avenges the death of her husband and defends her people.
I enjoyed researching all of the stories presented and making sure the art represented each show accurately. I have always wanted to try doing a pseudo risograph style of illustration. and I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to try something a bit experimental, as it matched the themes and mission of the New Works Collective.
